COLD-IN-PLACE PAVEMENT RECYCLING
Road Science’s Reflex® cold in-place recycling (CIR) is a high-performance, reliable, engineered process for pavement recycling to improve the condition of severely distressed asphalt pavements with structurally sound bases and good drainage. The Reflex process fixes the shortcomings of traditional CIR related to durability.
Reflex uses traditional CIR equipment, but is different from other solutions because it integrates the use of innovative asphalt emulsion chemistry and materials engineering principles. The result is a partial-depth recycled pavement with faster early strength, better short- and long-term durability, and more reliable performance. Traffic return is at least twice as fast compared to traditional CIR without any damage to the recycled road.
Our unique design method is project-specific and includes performance testing of the recycled mix for resistance to raveling, rutting, thermal cracking and moisture damage. The unique Reflex asphalt emulsion chemistry allows for inclusion of more asphalt in the mixes, yielding enhanced pavement flexibility and durability compared to traditional CIR.
The Reflex cold-in-place pavement recycling process is less disruptive, more eco-friendly, and costs less than traditional CIR. Reflex typically costs 25-40% less than the alternatives and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 80% compared to conventional paving.
